Information

N.O.A-BSP is a tool inspired by echolocation.

The Aim of this research was to look at a tool for Visually Impaired people and make their experience better in 3D, first person, games.

I wanted to see how new accessibility technologies could co-exist, cooperate and either enhance or be enhanced by what is deemed as "standard" accessibility options for blind people.

I will be honest. The "Game", titled Nothing to See, Hear (I am aware of my hilariousness) is a buggy mess.

Truth be told, as this is a project for University, I will likely never get around to fixing these issue due to having other personal projects to work on and my assignment now being submitted. But who knows, maybe one day.

This does not mean I won't be working on the tool. I still am and likely will be for several more years. The feedback I got from showcasing my work was very insightful and I look forward to exploring new opportunities for this tool.

If you are to try out this tool, please feel free to send me an email (see bottom of the page) and tell me what you think about it.

I would also like to take this time to thank two of my good friends: Eloise Salt and Jeff Wick. Without them, I never would have finished my project. So to both of them, thank you very much for all of your support.

Note: Currently
not working, sorry

There is no real aim to this. It has a few puzzles and some dialogue however it is mostly a sandbox-like experience.

The game is designed to be played with headphones on and the screen off.

If you have a second monitor, turn it to duplicate and turn it away from you. Why? because anyone else in the room can make fun of you easier :D (don't do this if you don't want to)

Controls:

WASD / Left Stick (directional) - Move around

Move Mouse / Right Stick (directional) - Look around

Q / Bottom Right Trigger - Echolocate

E / Left Stick (push down) - Reset your Eye Level

Tips:

  • I recommend using a controller

  • Sensitivity is quite high, so be nice to it ;-;

  • Reset your Eye Level if you are getting no feedback response after echolocating

  • Longer the delay between echolocating and the feedback response, further away the object

  • In Level 1, pause the game and activate "Echolocate Identifying Words" to true. This will tell you what object you are hitting instead of guessing what each sound played back represents.
